I’m delighted to announce a few bits of ‘recognition’ we’ve received – and given – in recent weeks.
We were awarded Living Wage Employer status in June. This might seem over the top for a company with just three employees, all of whom are management consultants! But it signals a couple of important things – we use ethical employment practices and want to work with suppliers and partners who do the same. So it’s not just about our team, it’s about everyone. Well worth doing. Though I’ve not found a sensible place to put the plaque in my 3m x 3m office yet!
This was followed by being signed up to the Scottish Business Pledge. Again this is a public commitment to working effectively and ethically. The process took a lot longer than the Living Wage application. But this was mostly due to administrative delays and it was an interesting process to go through as a small enterprise. Especially finding ways to articulate how we work and what we believe, which are both on a different paradigm to the minimum standards in the Pledge. Important to set it out though.
The third recognition was that, after an even longer process still, we’ve registered The Lasting Difference as a trademark. The main toolkit is still licensed under the Creative Commons approach, making it easy for people to use and share. But the trademark makes the licence terms a bit clearer, particularly that as a resource we write, develop and publish free of charge, other consultants are not permitted to use the toolkit in their paid work with clients. Like that needed spelling out! Ahem. We are a small consultancy investing in making the world a better place, enriching and adding to it, producing and uploading more than consuming and downloading. We encourage others to do the same.
The final bit of recognition and reward is that we have appointed long-term associate Jen Curran as a Non-Executive Director. Jen has been instrumental in a lot of our success over the last 18 months and thoroughly deserves this recongition. And of course, it means we can keep on picking her brains free of charge. Just as well we’re not a Living Wage Empl…Oh hang on…
